I too would recommend you speak to your doctor about it if you haven't already.
I have a friend who experiences sleep paralysis (I say "experience" rather than "suffer" because she has come to terms with it and knows not to panic when it happens) quite regularly and also her daughter has started with the same condition, so it would seem that it's hereditary in some way. The worst part about it for her was overcoming the panic when it first started, and teaching her daughter that it was normal and to come to accept it to.
Different people experience it at different severities and sometimes it can be more frequent than other times. Therefore I would think you would have to monitor it over a long period alongside meditation to actually be able to attribute the increase in frequency to meditation itself. You could be right, but more study would be needed, and better you do that with the support of your doctor.
