Yes it takes practice. Actually that is what meditation helps with. Learning to change your focus is what meditation is all about.
Everytime a negative thought comes in to mind I replace it with what I DO want.
Here is something else...Everytime you feel sad...it is because you are focusing on what you do NOT want.
The key is finding the "phrase", and an internal picture to replace the focus from what you don't want to what you do want.
I am physically fit I couple that with an internal picture of myself doing something that I associate with being physically fit.
Yes, believing this on an inner level and attaching a strong positive emotion to this, makes it happen faster and become something sustainable in your life.
