Just yesterday I was talking to my yoga teacher and his explanation of anxiety and turbulence occurring those practising meditation really helped.
We begin to reach a certain level of peace and calm, which in turn magnifies the deeper levels of inner noise which are present, and another way really of saying what Giles has explained. We need then to work on observing that level of emotion and progressively go deeper as necessary, just observing anything and everything that arises. No need to get attached to those feelings - they reflects the perceived 'I' which is not real. Just accept that is just stuff.
As the others have said, it may be good to cut down on your meditation time for a while but the feelings are natural and progress is being made
