Your advice is absolutely correct. It is important to see if we can recognise the root cause of issues so that they can be dealt with, and EFT (or other therapies) are very useful to clearing the emotions that arise from those causes, thus allowing us to deal with them, but we shouldn't just ignore the cause just because we've cleared the emotion. Of course, it does depend on the nature of the issue as there will be some things that are in the past and just cannot be changed, so clearing the emotions attached to these memories is the only real option.
